Community Engagement, Interpreters and Translators – Aboriginal Interpreter Service
Several ongoing vacancies are available in Alice Springs, Nhulunbuy and Tennant Creek
Apply your exceptional client service, relationship management and cultural competency skills in a rewarding and diverse role.
Coordinate and deliver responsive services for Aboriginal Interpreter Service (AIS) clients with cultural sensitivity and professionalism.
Recruit, train and support Aboriginal interpreters to achieve high standards and service quality.
The Department of Housing, Local Government and Community Development (DHLGCD) are dedicated to restoring the Territory lifestyle and creating stronger, more connected communities. We offer innovative housing solutions, empower local governance, and build social and economic resilience to enhance the well-being and opportunities of all Territorians. Be part of our dynamic team, passionately committed to fostering community growth, resilience and inclusion across the Territory.
As a dedicated Training Liaison Officer, you'll be the first point of contact for Aboriginal Interpreter Service (AIS) clients in our regions, offering expert advice on services, and interpreter availability based on specific language and community needs. You're adept at prioritising urgent requests and expertly matching job requests with the most qualified interpreters, always considering cultural protocols and kinship.
You'll play a crucial role in maintaining high-quality service by proactively communicating with clients, setting clear expectations and keeping them informed. Your organisational skills will shine as you coordinate rosters and travel arrangements for interpreters, while ensuring Interpreters are fully briefed on the arrangements. You'll also be responsible for identifying training needs for interpreters and working with our Bookings and Training Officers to identify and schedule opportunities for them to gain valuable skills and knowledge to progress in their careers as professional Interpreters.
Working as part of a supportive team, you will be a key point of contact for our stakeholders and our Interpreters in our regions. You will work closely with your Regional Coordinator to understand your region, Interpreters and stakeholders, and be a key advisor on the best way to coordinate activities in your region of responsibility.
Your ability to work confidentially and with the utmost tact and sensitivity with Aboriginal people is essential. You're a confident and discreet communicator, able to negotiate effectively with both clients and colleagues while always maintaining a strong client-focused approach.
You're highly organised, capable of managing your own workload efficiently and offering support to the team when needed. With strong administrative and computer literacy skills, including experience with databases and electronic record management, you're a quick learner and a strategic thinker, always focused on ensuring our clients and staff needs are at the centre of our service.
Enjoy a role where your work makes a real difference every day. You’ll receive on-the-job training in our systems and work environment, plus ongoing professional development and the opportunity to build a long-term career with DHLGCD.
In addition to meaningful work, you’ll enjoy a competitive package that includes 12% superannuation, six weeks recreation leave, three weeks personal leave, 17.5% annual leave loading, three additional Christmas closedown days, flexible work options, and a supportive leadership team.
