About the Barkly Regional Deal
The Barkly Regional Deal (the Deal), the first regional deal in Australia, is underpinned by a statement of intent signed by the Commonwealth, the Northern Territory Government and the Barkly Regional Council, with an investment of $100.5 million. The Deal was instigated in 2019, through community action to address the long-standing inequities and related economic and social issues in Barkly communities.
The Deal, now in the 6th year of operation, is a ten-year commitment to 28 initiatives to be delivered in the Barkly. It is also a commitment from the government partners to a new way of working with the community based on a shared vision and agreed priorities and principles.
About the Opportunity
Based in Tennant Creek, this role provides project and management support to the Barkly Backbone Team, including supervising a team of Community Researchers and supporting community-led planning, implementation, and evaluation activities. You’ll work closely with local Working Groups, government, and community stakeholders to operationalise agreed priorities using a Collective Impact approach.
What we are looking for:
- Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in Community Development, Evaluation, Project Management, or related fields.
- Demonstrated experience living and working in a remote Aboriginal context and understanding of the complex historical, cultural, social and political factors impacting on Aboriginal communities
- Strong facilitation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to manage complex projects and collaborative planning processes
- Ability to create materials that engage effectively with a range of audiences including Aboriginal community members
- Prior experience or, at a minimum, demonstrated commitment to working respectfully with Indigenous and culturally and linguistically diverse clients, communities, staff, and Aboriginal controlled organisations.

Please note: It is a requirement that prior to commencing in this role, you must provide 100 points of identification to confirm Australian citizenship or eligibility to work in Australia; possess a Working with Children (Ochre Card), a current National Criminal History Check (within 3 months) and a valid NT driver’s licence.
Experience of working closely with and having a strong understanding of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander culture would be considered an advantage.
