Lead training that empowers Aboriginal voices and strengthens language access across the Northern Territory.
Shape workforce capability through innovative professional development and interpreter pathways.
Work with communities and stakeholders to expand access to language services.
The Department of Housing, Local Government and Community Development is dedicated to building stronger, more connected communities across the Northern Territory. Through innovative housing solutions, support for effective local governance, and initiatives that drive social and economic resilience, we work to enhance the wellbeing and opportunities of all Territorians. We take pride in our approach to addressing real Territory challenges and delivering meaningful outcomes that restore the Territory lifestyle by shaping a thriving and inclusive Territory. Be part of a dynamic and passionate organisation committed to improving the life outcomes of all Territorians, and shaping the Territory by fostering community growth, resilience, and inclusion.
Seeking a skilled and passionate leader to manage the planning and delivery of professional development and training programs that build interpreter capability and strengthen service capacity across the Northern Territory.
As the Training & Capability Development Manager, you will lead a team delivering professional development for Aboriginal Interpreters across the NT. You will design and deliver client-user training, oversee assessment and orientation for new interpreters, and build strong partnerships with stakeholders to expand interpreter capability and certification pathways, including NAATI. The role also drives the continuous improvement of training resources to ensure content remains contemporary, effective and culturally appropriate, while providing strategic advice on programs, policies and procedures to strengthen organisational capability and performance.
To be successful, you will bring strong leadership skills to manage multidisciplinary teams, build workforce capability and apply sound strategic and analytical thinking. You will use your high-level communication and engagement skills to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships, while drawing on your knowledge of Aboriginal cultures and policy issues in the NT to strengthen interpreter learning and development.
You will also have experience delivering training to culturally diverse learners, and the flexibility to travel to regional and remote communities when required. The ability to speak an Aboriginal language or apply Aboriginal teaching and learning styles, together with knowledge of the interpreting and translating sector (including NAATI certification pathways), will enable you to make an even greater impact in this role.
In return, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference every day by strengthening language access for Aboriginal people. You will enjoy a competitive NTPS remuneration package, including six weeks annual recreation leave, 17.5% leave loading, 12% superannuation and three days Christmas closedown leave. You’ll also benefit from flexible work arrangements, a supportive and collaborative team environment, and ongoing professional development with the chance to build a rewarding career in the NT Public Sector.
