Our client; an iconic Australian brand with a reputation for innovation and excellence is seeking a Senior Integration/API Developer to join their high-performing backend engineering team. Motion Recruitment is seeking a seasoned developer who thrives in complex integration landscapes and is passionate about building scalable, secure, and resilient APIs.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain backend services using Java Spring Boot
• Design and implement RESTful APIs; support legacy SOAP integrations
• Write clean, testable code with strong unit and integration coverage
• Deploy applications to AWS using Docker and Kubernetes
• Tune performance across Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MySQL databases
• Implement observability tools for monitoring, alerting, and distributed tracing
• Build fault-tolerant systems with retries, circuit breakers, and timeout handling
• Apply secure coding practices including OAuth2, JWT, TLS, and data encryption
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering standards

Requirements:

• Advanced Java (8/11/17+) and Spring Boot expertise
• Strong understanding of microservices architecture and domain-driven design
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Maven, and Git workflows
• Hands-on with AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes
• Solid grasp of RESTful API design; exposure to SOAP services
• Proficient in JUnit, Mockito, and Spring Boot Test frameworks
• Familiarity with security protocols and role-based access control

Bonus Skills:

• Experience with Kogito / Drools for business rules automation
• Background in the airline or travel domain
• Familiarity with Redis, performance tuning, and caching strategies
• Exposure to API Gateway platforms (WSO2, Apigee, AWS API Gateway)
• Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka or Confluent Kafka for event-driven architecture

This role is a 6 month contract based in Sydney working 2/3 days in office with opportunity for extension. It is a daily rate contract of $1050 inclusive of Super per day. Please note only applicants with full working rights in Australia, will be considered for this role.
