The Role
The acquisition of conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarines is an historic and transformative endeavour for Australia. The whole-of-nation effort to safely and securely deliver the cutting edge nuclear-powered submarine program will transform Australia’s economic and national security landscape for decades to come.
Within the ASA Capability RQTS Branch, ASA 6 JFI Project Coordination is accountable under broad direction to perform and achieve complex written and analytical work within an integrated workforce. They will require an in-depth knowledge of and compliance with relevant frameworks, government decision-making and Defence's mission and policy requirements.
An ASA 6 JFI Project Co-Ord role will exercise a degree of independence and perform subject matter expert role. They will exercise sound decision-making and judgement to provide expert policy advice. They will have in-depth knowledge of the Defence capability development functions and are responsible for the development, implementation, compliance and review of policies and procedures relevant to their work within that function.
They will engage in very complex problem solving and issues management and may coordinate and perform detailed or sensitive projects that impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes for Defence. An ASA 6 JFI Project Co-Ord role may be a member of integrated teams coach or lead project or administrative teams and will be accountable for the outcomes of the teams work and the appropriate use of resources to produce and achieve outcomes.
They are expected to be capable of building team capability through coaching and feedback and reviewing and developing the quality of work undertaken by others within a work unit. They may exercise the associated people and financial responsibilities to achieve work unit outcomes.
About our Team
Within the ASA Capability RQTS Branch, the Joint Force Integration team is accountable for providing Sponsor and analytical work regarding the integration of conventionally armed, nuclear powered submarines into the Australian Defence Force. The team are responsible for the development, implementation, compliance and review of policies and procedures relevant to the work function.
The branch supports Assistant Director General Nuclear Submarine Capability who is the Capability Sponsor for project DEF 1 Nuclear Powered Submarine Capability. The Branch structure includes directorates who perform the Project Sponsor role for delivery of Virginia Class Submarines and SSN-AUKUS, as well as coordinate requirements for Joint Force Integration of nuclear powered submarines.
To effect these, the Branch works closely with the project delivery branches, and broader into the wider Defence and whole of government portfolio. While ASA does accommodate flexible working arrangements, this position is a Canberra based position and will require the suitable candidate to be mostly on-site, and located in Canberra or close surrounds.
