About the role
South West Healthcare (SWH) is seeking a passionate and experienced Project Lead to deliver the Healing Together Our Way initiative, a regionally focused program to improve cancer outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across South West Victoria.
This is a unique opportunity to lead a culturally responsive project that supports prevention, early detection, and treatment by embedding Aboriginal-led care into mainstream health services. You will collaborate with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs), cancer services, and local providers to co-design and implement a sustainable, culturally safe model of care.
Working across Warrnambool, Portland, Heywood, and Hamilton, and in partnership with Gunditjmara Aboriginal Co-operative, Winda-Mara Aboriginal Corporation, Dhauwurd-Wurrung Elderly and Community Health Service, and key health services, you'll play a central role in creating long-term, community-led change.
Key responsibilities
- Lead project coordination, governance, and stakeholder engagement
- Co-design and embed a culturally safe model of cancer care
- Support Aboriginal Cancer Support Officers across the region
- Deliver tailored staff training and community education
- Evaluate project impact and ensure sustainability
- Strengthen relationships between health services and Aboriginal communities
What you bring
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant health or related field
- Experience in the healthcare system, including primary and acute care
- Knowledge of quality improvement in health settings
- Project management or service development experience
- Proven ability to deliver initiatives on time
- Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and negotiation skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Strong time management and organisational skills
- Current driver's licence and ability to travel
Desirable
- Local First Nations community connections
- Experience or knowledge in cancer care
