Cultural Activities Officer | Pinangba Services | Star of the Sea | Thursday Island

Employment Term: Permanent Full Time

Location: Star of the Sea Aged Care Facility, Thursday Island

Remuneration: $35.86 + Super + Salary Packaging of up to $15,900 (increases your take home pay) + Penalties & Allowances

Services for Star of the Sea Elders Village are delivered by Pinangba, an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led arm of UnitingCare.

We deliver culturally informed services through innovative service delivery to progress Self-Determination for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through unique and holistic care; prioritising social justice to nurture physical, mental and spiritual healing.

Your part in our Pinangba team

The Cultural Activities Officer is responsible for developing, coordinating, and facilitating a diverse range of recreational, social, and cultural programs that enhance the emotional, mental, and physical wellbeing of residents. This role places particular emphasis on culturally inclusive practices, ensuring that programs reflect the backgrounds, traditions, and interests of all residents, including those from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities. The officer works closely with residents, families, and care staff to create a welcoming environment that supports cultural identity, social connection, and individual choice.

In collaboration with care team, develop, coordinate and lead identified residents in activity programs (e.g. social and recreational).

Document and report on activity programs and ongoing progress of residents.

Organise, socialise, participate and supervise residents on outings as required.

Attend to the personal care needs of residents as required.

Observe and report promptly any changes or concerns in residents’ health, well-being or behaviour to the immediate supervisor.

Safely transport individuals as requested and approved in accordance with blue Care vehicle operation requirements.

What you’ll need:

Certificate III in Aged Care, Disability, Community Services, Home and Community Care or other relevant field.

Experience with technology incl. smartphones, tablets, laptops etc

Confidence to satisfy the relevant probity checks required by legislation or policies

NDIS Workers Screening Clearance or willingness to obtain
