About the role

We are seeking a Casual Scientific Officer to join our dedicated team within Glenside, SA.

Your role will be to participate in the day-to-day operation of the laboratory, working as part of a dedicated team. Duties include Microbiology work, maintenance of instrumentation and equipment and compliance with accreditation and quality assurance requirements. The preferred applicants will be flexible, punctual, self-motivated, display initiative and be able to work with minimal supervision.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Diploma or Degree in Laboratory Science or an AIMS accredited equivalent as a minimum.

Relevant experience and qualification in specialised discipline Microbiology, minimum of 2 years’ experience plate reading in a diagnostic setting.

High attention to detail and experience working in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to multitask and successfully work as part of a team.

Experience using manual kits for identification of bacteria as well as use of Maldi-TOF, good working knowledge of antibiotics, reading of gram stains and quality control processes.

Desirable but not essential, previous experience within a Veterinary pathology laboratory, parasitology, mycology, cell counts and fluid analysis, plate set up and media making.

Exceptional communication, time management & organisational skills.

The ability to contribute towards the delivery of customer focused services.

Have own transport and be able to take part in weekend and evening rosters including public holidays.
