About the role
QGE Pty Ltd is seeking highly skilled and experienced Power Systems Engineers to join our team in either our South Brisbane or Beerwah office. As a full-time Power Systems Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining complex electrical power systems that are fundamental to our business operations.
What we're looking for
Degree qualified Electrical Engineer, eligible for Engineers Australia membership, experienced in HV and EHV Electrical Engineering design and documentation
Proficient in performing load flow analysis, short-circuit studies, protection coordination, arc flash hazard assessments, harmonic distortion evaluations, and motor starting studies using industry-standard software platforms.
Proficient in power system modelling and simulation tools including DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, ETAP, and PowerTools for Windows, with applied experience in both transmission and distribution-level systems.
Working knowledge of Python programming, applied for automation, scripting, and data exchange with power system analysis software to support advanced grid connection and interconnection studies.
Sound understanding of EHV and HV primary and secondary system design principles, including equipment rating, layout, clearances, insulation coordination, and earthing design
Comprehensive knowledge of relevant Australian and international electrical standards.
Knowledge of IEC 61850 communications protocols for smart substation design and protection and control system integration
Experience in overhead line design, ideally including use of PLS-CADD software.
Other non-essential requirements, but highly regarded:
Experience with modelling renewable-rich, weak power grids, with specialization in voltage stability, frequency dynamics, and virtual inertia control using battery energy storage systems.
Experience with Omicron testing equipment (CT/VT, relay, and protection scheme testing) for primary and secondary injection, including protection relay configuration and end-to-end system testing
