Business Data Analyst | Data Governance | Large Utilities Organisation

• Melbourne / WFH (Hybrid)
• $800 - $1000 p/d (based on experience)
• 6 month contract with extensions

Primary Purpose of the Role:

Support the delivery of data initiatives by shaping platform strategy, strengthening data governance practices, and assisting in scoping data science opportunities. The role will bridge business needs and technical teams to ensure solutions are aligned, practical, and add measurable value.

Key Accountabilities:

• Engage stakeholders to define and refine the organisation’s platform strategy, ensuring it supports future growth and innovation
• Work with technical and business teams to establish and embed data governance processes, standards, and compliance measures
• Scope data science use cases, translating business challenges into clear requirements and prioritised initiatives
• Document functional and non-functional requirements, user stories, and process flows
• Facilitate workshops and discussions to align stakeholders and clarify outcomes
• Partner with data engineering and analytics teams to validate feasibility and solution options
• Provide insights and recommendations that support decision-making across data-related projects
• Work within a modern data stack environment including Databricks, Power BI, Medallion architecture, and related cloud analytics platforms

Essential Requirements:

• Demonstrated experience as a Business Analyst in data-focused environments
• Strong understanding of platform strategy concepts and their business application
• Knowledge of data governance principles, frameworks, and best practice
• Exposure to scoping and defining data science or advanced analytics initiatives
• Hands-on familiarity with Databricks and Power BI; exposure to Medallion or similar architectures highly regarded
• Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, business-friendly language
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
