An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Finance Officer to join a respected organisation in Brisbane, CBD to work on diverse range if key accounting functions.
What you'll do:
- Prepare comprehensive tax returns while ensuring strict adherence to relevant tax legislation such as GST, payroll tax, and fringe benefits tax.
- Review detailed payroll reports and reconciliations, preparing associated journals including those related to Central Leave Scheme and Workcover wages declaration.
- Monitor the payroll inbox diligently, escalating complex or urgent matters promptly to ensure timely resolution.
- Compile Australian Bureau of Statistics returns and surveys accurately to meet statutory obligations.
- Develop and maintain productive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including government agencies and organisational departments.
- Prepare thorough reconciliations including balance sheet analysis as required by the finance function.
- Collate working papers to support external audit processes and assist with end-of-month and end-of-year financial activities.
- Prepare claims documentation for Queensland Government funded works in accordance with Service Level Agreements.
- Process month-end accruals and journals efficiently, including expense distribution to cost centres and reviewing clearing accounts for accuracy.
- Provide essential support to accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger functions as needed by the team.
What you bring:
- Demonstrated sound working knowledge in financial accounting principles combined with practical experience in administrative activities within a finance setting.
- Comprehensive understanding of accounting standards as well as current tax legislation relevant to GST, payroll tax, and fringe benefits tax.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively within a high-performing finance team by supporting colleagues and adapting seamlessly to changing priorities.
- Track record of building strong working relationships with both internal teams and external stakeholders such as regulatory bodies or service providers.
- Exceptional organisational skills enabling you to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while delivering accurate results within tight deadlines.
- Experience using TechnologyOne software or other enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems for efficient financial management processes.
- Demonstrable knowledge of accounting practices specifically relating to GST, Payroll Tax, Fringe Benefits Tax ensuring full compliance at all times.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills allowing you to convey complex information clearly across various audiences.
- Commitment to upholding confidentiality due to access to sensitive data; appointment subject to successful criminal history check.
