Our client, a Federal Government Department committed to improving the lives of veterans and their families, is seeking experienced and driven Senior Policy Officers to join their Policy and Research Division.

This Division is responsible for shaping and implementing key policy across health, wellbeing, and financial benefits for the veteran community. It plays a crucial role in driving legislative reform, advising government and building relationships with key stakeholders across government and community sectors.

About the Role:

Reporting to an Assistant Director, you will play a central role in designing and delivering policy that supports veterans and their families.
You will:

• Develop and implement policies aligned with the Government’s priorities in health and wellbeing
• Provide strategic and technical policy advice to senior executives and ministers
• Prepare ministerial briefs, correspondence, discussion papers and reports
• Analyse research and data to inform policy direction
• Review and update policy documentation to support service delivery staff
• Collaborate across the department and with external stakeholders to inform and strengthen policy development
• Prepare materials for senior executive presentations and governance committees
• Contribute to the Department’s response to the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide

Key Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

• Experience in policy development and implementation, ideally in a government context
• Strong understanding of government processes, including legislative reform and budget cycles
• Ability to collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders across government and community organisations
• High-level written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex or technical matters clearly
• Initiative, flexibility, and a strong team-oriented approach
