About the Role

We’re on the lookout for an experienced Chef / Strong Cook (ideally a budding Sous Chef) who’s ready to roll up their sleeves and take charge in the kitchen. This is a hands-on role where you’ll have the opportunity to flex your creativity, influence the menu, and bring fresh ideas to the table, while also keeping service smooth, consistent, and fast-paced.

This role comes with flexibility for the right fit, no evening shifts, and relocation/accommodation support if you’re moving to join us.

What You’ll Be Doing

Lead food prep and service to ensure quality, consistency, and speed.

Manage stock, reduce wastage, and suggest creative promotions to move stock before expiry.

Uphold strict food safety and hygiene standards

Develop specials and seasonal menu ideas that fit the Café 6044 brand.

Mentor kitchen and FOH staff.

Oversee day-to-day café operations alongside the FOH Manager.

Build strong supplier relationships and manage ordering costs.

Support rostering and labour management to keep efficiency high.

Monitor margins, costs, and performance to drive profitability.

Foster a collaborative, positive team culture.

What We’re Looking For

A formal qualification in commercial cookery, such as a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (or an equivalent international qualification).

A minimum of 2 years of professional experience as a Chef in a commercial kitchen environment.

Leadership and people skills, able to inspire, motivate, and set the standard.

Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.

Excellent communication and multitasking skills.

Creativity, modern café culture awareness, and a passion for innovation.

Flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, and public holidays.
