Our current, long-term, Academic Manager is taking a step back from the management side of the business, so we are now on the lookout for a new Academic Manager to continue the important job of overseeing the planning, development and delivery of training and assessment services of our RTO, Plenty Training.
This role involves working as a part of our management team, ensuring the smooth operation and success of the academic team and its initiatives, compliance with industry regulations and supporting both learners and academic staff.

Plenty Training (RTO #32371) is a leading RTO delivering the TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment as well as the TAE50122 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training. ABOUT THE ROLE
The role of the Academic Manager is to oversee the planning and delivery of training and assessment services within Plenty Training. This involves allocation of training resources and continuous improvement of training and assessment quality.
Operational Management:
Overseeing the day-to-day operations of academic programs, ensuring smooth functioning of classes, assessments, and student support services.
Being an active member of the Management Team, and working closely with the Assistant Academic Manager, the Operations Manager, administration teams, sales and marketing teams.
Team Leadership:
Management of a small team of academic staff which includes the Assistant Academic Manager, trainers and assessors.
Student Support:
Overseeing student support services provided by trainers and assessors, providing academic guidance, and ensuring a positive student experience by ensuring the academic team is delivering high-quality training and assessing outcomes.
Academic Administration:
Overseeing tasks such as class scheduling, assessment management, academic reports, eligibility screening and processes, personalised learning pathway development, liaising with corporate clients to provide customised course solutions.
Quality Assurance:
Management and maintenance of academic standards and quality assurance processes such as compliance checks, validations, participation in industry engagement.
Instructional Design:
Contribute to instructional design, assisting with the development and management of the learner management and student management systems and resources
ABOUT YOU
Must haves:
You will be ready to take this next step in your career, or already be an established Academic Manager in a similar role within the VET sector
You will have ideas and initiatives, and a willingness to learn, observe, and make continuous improvements to our processes and procedures
Be an experienced VET professional with a solid understanding and proven track record of understanding the current VET climate and landscape, as well as the new Standards for RTOs
The ability to work remotely from home as the bulk of our team now work remotely, with occasional face-to-face meetings at our Varsity Lakes Head Office
The ability to occasionally travel to Melbourne or Brisbane to observe training in action at our various locations.
A patient, positive and can-do attitude to problem solving
A warm and engaging personality to quickly build rapport with our long-standing teams and students, amazing interpersonal and communication skills for assistance with complaints and challenges
Experience with managing change for your learners (and staff)
Working in an online environment
Online SMS/LMS operations
High level technical and software skills (ideal)
Mandatory Qualifications
Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (TAE50122 or TAE50116 or TAE50111 or Diploma of Training Design and Development TAE50216); and
TAE40116 (preference for TAE40122) Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
Participating in assessment validations
Reviewing procedures and applying the Standards for RTOs requirements
Participating in peer reviews
Beneficial but not essential:
TAE delivery experience
Experience developing online training in an LMS and online resources
SPECIFIC JOB TASKS MAY INCLUDE:
Ensure that Plenty Training and its staff complies with the Standards for RTOs 2025 and applicable legislation at all times.
Manage the trainers and assessors.
Manage the Plenty Training Administration Coordinator to coordinate the flow of documentation to ensure student records and operational data is kept accurate and up to date (in cooperation with the Operations Manager).
Provide guidance and assistance to staff on educational and administrative issues and career development and maintain staff relations conducive to a productive work environment.
Plan training and assessment sessions to ensure the required resources are available to support the delivery (in cooperation with the Operations Manager).
Deliver and coordinate training in accordance with the requirements of the training strategy using training methods that progressively instill knowledge and skills into the learner.
Conduct and coordinate assessment in accordance with the principles of assessment and the designated assessment strategy.
Contribute to the development of curriculum, teaching methods and resources and student assessment procedures, as well as contribute to the development of training and assessment materials.
Update the professional development register (Register 2) to provide a true record of professional development and currency. Ensure all trainers and assessors have a professional development plan updated annually and records of ongoing development and currency maintained
Undertake own professional development activities to continue to develop competence and currency of skills and knowledge. Update Plenty Training professional development register to provide a true record of professional development activity.
Contribute to Plenty Training systematic approach to continuous improvement. This includes participating in Continuous Improvement Committee meetings, identifying opportunities for improvement and acting responsively to implement agreed improvements.
Lead Participate in Plenty Training assessment moderation and validation activities to maintain the alignment of assessment with industry expectations and training package requirements. Ensure a schedule of validation activity is maintained and followed
Lead and participate in industry, community and employer engagement activities and ensure records are maintained
Maintain equipment and training aids to ensure they are serviceable and safe for operation. Monitor the safety of students at all times. Always put the safety of students before any other priority or activity.
Protect the privacy of students in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles.
Perform duties in an ethical and professional manner that supports an inclusive environment that is free from discrimination and harassment.
Respect the needs of each student and make adjustment to training and assessment to accommodate these needs of individuals without compromising the integrity of the desired outcome.
Facilitate student access to their records on request.
Ensure that appropriate housekeeping measures are observed, and that training facilities are maintained in a clean and safe state.
Contribute to implementing emergency prevention activities and response procedures.
