About the Role
This position is based at the Thomas Embling Hospital, Fairfield.
The Nursing Practice Development Unit (NPDU) endeavours to promote best possible contemporary quality nursing care of consumers requiring specialist forensic mental health care. The NPDU supports a culture of high-quality nursing practice and development, uses evidence-based approaches to care, promotes evaluation and research, as well as supports the development of clinical governance and accountability of nurses.
The Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) provides sound leadership in nursing staff development, education and practice development. The CNEs coordinate undergraduate and graduate nursing programs across the service and undertake projects related to clinical nursing.
As a Clinical Nursing Educator, you will:
- Coordinate student placements and provision of professional support and counselling to students.
- Coordination of the preceptorship program for students on placement.
- Evaluation of student placements.
- Establishment of an effective recruitment campaign for the selection of graduate nurse
- Membership and participation on nursing educational and advisory committees
- Identification of suitable education programs for nurses in consultation with the Director of Nursing Practice, the Senior Mental Health Nurse, Nurse Unit Managers.
- Delivery of lectures at universities.
- Provision of career advice for nursing staff and acting as a resource regarding education and training opportunities
About You:
- A current practising certificate in Nursing, issued by AHPRA Nurses Board of Victoria, with a post graduate qualification in Psychiatric Nursing or equivalent.
- Experience in nursing education or clinical teaching.
- Possesses a relevant tertiary qualification (or working towards the same) to support role in advanced practice, education and research.
- Extensive knowledge and demonstrated experience in current psychiatric nursing practice within a range of relevant settings including forensic psychiatry.
- Proven ability to plan, implement and evaluate training and educational programs in a health care setting.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills

Forensicare (Victorian Institute of Forensic Mental Health) is the state-wide specialist provider of forensic mental health services in Victoria. Forensicare is the only agency in Victoria that provides clinical forensic mental health services which span all components of the mental health and criminal justice sectors – giving Forensicare a unique perspective on mental health and public safety issues. It is able to provide specialist forensic mental health services tailored to meet the specific needs of both sectors.
We provide forensic mental health services for people:
with a serious mental illness in the criminal justice system
at risk of offending who pose a risk to themselves or others
