We are seeking an experienced and driven youth worker to join our growing team of dynamic youth workers.
The Organisation:
Albany Youth Support Association is the leading Youth services organisation in the Great Southern with over 40 years of experience.
The position may work up to .8 FTE and may work across different programs across the organisation.
The Opportunity: Outreach and or Residential Youth Worker
The role/s provide early intervention and preventative support to ‘At Risk’ young people predominantly 12 to 18 years of age. Supporting young people to connect with appropriate support services, family members, school staff, peers and their communities thus increasing their networks. The role will provide mentoring, advocacy, referrals as well as case planning and case management through delivery of any of the following programs; the Denmark Youth Outreach Program, the Denmark School Wellbeing Officer program, Residential Youth worker and/or as maternity leave cover for the Supported Housing Outreach Tenancy Program.
The position will require considerable initiative in delivery of service, developing relationships/partnerships and has a significant amount of administrative and reporting requirements. The roles available may be based at the Youth Great Southern – AYSA Youth Centre or at Young House, however; may be predominantly mobile, outreaching to young people within the school environments and beyond where necessary.
The role will work with young people with complex needs and challenging behaviours who are likely to have experienced various forms of trauma and are exposed to multiple risks. The role/s will use positive approaches that build on skills and abilities to enhance strengths and further develop resilience. The Youth Worker will actively facilitate mentoring/ role modelling activities to engage with young people at risk which may at times include activities as a means of engagement.
If employed as a Residential Youth Worker the availability to work sleepover shifts will be required.
Essential Criteria:
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Demonstrated sound interpersonal and communication skills
Understanding of issues effecting young people e.g. substance use and mental health
Minimum Certificate IV Youth Work or like, and minimum of two years experience in education, youth services, or the not-for-profit services sector
Ability to engage and work with young people who have complex needs in a face to face and group situation
Ability to assist development of life skills and emotional regulation through intensive case management and the development of specific programs when appropriate
Ability to communicate effectively with young people particularly in a small group situation
Understanding of duty of care and Youth Work Code of Ethics
Computer literacy and time management / organizational skills
Ability to work flexible hours, as required.
Knowledge of “Trauma Informed Practice” and “Strengths Based Models”
Desirable
Diploma in Community Services, Youth Work, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge of and comfort with various forms of social media including the negative effects on mental health.
The occupant of this position will require the following prior to appointment:
Current C or C-A class drivers’ licence.
Current Senior First Aid Certificate or ability to obtain same on commencement.
Working with Children Check.
National Police Certificate (within six months) and Traffic Infringement/Conviction Records.
Certificate IV / Diploma in Youth Services, Community Services, or equivalent combination of experience
Must have commenced appropriate tertiary studies or meet the minimum experience required
Minimum two years experience working with youth or the not-for-profit services sector
