The Role:
A fantastic opportunity exists for an experienced and suitably qualified Medical Scientist to join the Immunology Department at Northern Pathology Victoria located at Northern Health in Epping, in a Permanent 1.0 FTE Full-Time capacity. The successful applicant must have experience and with a broad range of immunopathology techniques including indirect immunofluorescence.
The role is responsible for the reliable, accurate and timely provision of pathology results in the Immunopathology Laboratory. The Northern Health Immunology service is currently under active development, and it is expected that the successful applicant will participate in the development of the laboratory.
The role and responsibilities are to be carried out in a manner that is consistent with the values, quality objectives, performance goals, delegations, policies, procedures, and operations of NPV and in line with the Northern Health "Code of Conduct".
The major duties and/or responsibilities and the Key Performance Indicators as outlined in the scope of the position description.
This position is responsible for:
- Reliable, accurate and efficient performance of a wide range of diagnostic assays by automated and manual methods. Including the reading of Indirect Immunofluorescence.
- Performing assays in accordance with documented procedures as outlined in the Quality Management System
- Assist in establishing the Immunology service in conjunction with the Principal Scientist and medical staff. Including assay / equipment evaluation and validation, staff selection and training and development of appropriate documentation
- With the support of Haematology Principal Scientist, participate management activities of reporting junior scientist
Other duties as Northern Pathology Victoria broadens its scope of testing.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Bachelor degree of Science or Applied Science or equivalent from a tertiary institution recognised by the Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists (AIMS). Higher qualifications in related fields are desirable
- A minimum of 5 years recent experience in an Immunopathology department in a large medical pathology laboratory and at least 8 years as a qualified scientist. Does not need to have experience with all assays offered by Northern Health though should have sound knowledge and skills relating to an extensive range of diagnostic tests and procedures.
- Strong commitment to a high quality of care and continuous professional development
- Ability to work as part of a diverse team and independently with a proven ability to plan and prioritise work effectively to meet deadlines
- High level of interpersonal, leadership, organisational and communication skills with a well-developed capacity to adapt to continues change and liaise effectively with staff
- Capable of performing all laboratory investigations, including instrument operation and understand the principles of analytical methods used
- Recognises and understands the clinical significance of results which should be communicated to the requesting medical offer and other staff
- Be aware of, and comply with, NPAAC and NATA standards and other relevant standards and guidelines
