About the role:
The primary focus of the position is to coordinate the financial administrative, processing and control functions of the organisation and to support the Director of Finance and Infrastructure in performing the day-to-day financial operations in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.
The Finance Manager is supervised by the Director of Finance and Infrastructure and has supervisory responsibilities for the Accountant, Senior Payroll & Finance Officer, Finance Officer and Administration Officer, Finance.
The Finance Manager coordinates the work activities of the finance team, maintains strong relationships with internal management and external stakeholders on financial operations, and as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, provides advice, guidance, and support to all managers.
Key responsibilities:
- Supervision of the Finance Team including the delivery of the organisation’s financial accounting processes including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Purchasing, Payroll and Fleet Vehicle Management.
- Prepare and process journal entries and reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly.
- Completion of month-end, quarter-end, and year-end processes including the review and delivery of supporting management and external reports.
- Prepare Annual Financial Statements and supporting workpapers to assist external Auditors with the discharge of the annual audit process.
- Manage and maintain the financial reporting system for an extensive portfolio of grants, including responsibility for the preparation and submission of financial grant acquittal reports in accordance with funding agreements.
- Review and support Managers with regular budget monitoring and program financial performance reporting including one-on-one communication and active contribution at Senior Leadership Team (SLT) meetings.
- Administer the legislative and taxation obligations of the organisation including Superannuation, PAYG, FBT and GST, and the preparation and lodgment of Business Activity Statements and portable long service leave returns.
- Assist with development of the annual budget and mid-year budget revision as well as long-term financial forecasting through the analysis of financial data and trends.
- Ensure all corporate information and statistical data is accurately captured within the organisation’s business systems in accordance with record keeping policies and procedures, to support performance measurement, reporting, and evaluation activities.
- Provide staff training on financial concepts, systems and processes across the organisation.
- Participate in organisational and community activities to advance the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Work within Wuchopperen’s Policies and Procedures including the Staff Code of Conduct and the Work Health and Safety requirements and contribute to continuous improvement processes to ensure compliance with relevant standards and safe, effective service delivery.
- Other duties as required, within your skills, experience and capacity.
Core Capabilities:
For applicants to be successful in this role, they should demonstrate:
- Demonstrated experience with complex accounting software including project costing ledgers, together with proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products at an advanced level, with a specific emphasis on MS Excel.
- Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and cultures from an historical and contemporary perspective, including the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting and demonstrated experience with budget development, Financial Statement preparation and the ability to prepare detailed work papers with a high level of accuracy.
- Extensively developed interpersonal and communication skills including the ability liaise with a range of stakeholders as well as effectively advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Demonstrated experience in people management, including the ability to lead, support and develop staff, build positive team culture, and manage performance to achieve organisational objectives.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team environment, prioritise and meet deadlines, deal with matters of a sensitive and confidential nature.
- Demonstrated ability to meet and work within the core values and behaviours of Wuchopperen.
Qualifications and experience:
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting
- CA or CPA and membership of relevant professional body
- People Management Experience
Requirements:
- Hold a current Blue Card (for suitability to work with children and young people).
- Proof of qualifications is required to be provided prior to the commencement of duty.
- Possess a current driver’s licence.
- A commitment to adhere to Wuchopperen’s policies and procedures.
