The Company
This Developer / Builder is on its way to becoming one of Australia’s leading providers of bespoke commercial, industrial, and high-rise residential projects.
Due to their strong involvement in the real estate market over the past half-century, they have priceless insights into locating value, investments, returns, and cash flows for their clients. Advising them not only on the right places to buy but also on the right places to build and lease.
With over 100 staff in Melbourne and around a dozen here in SA, now is the time to get into his business and grow into a Site Manager in the coming years.
The Culture
Everyone is an individual and treated like family because they are! This has taken decades to cultivate, synergise, and harmonise.
With almost 50 years of knowledge and expertise in development and construction passed down from one generation to the next, they know what it takes to create, build, and deliver outstanding projects, while maintaining the culture, values, and principles of a family builder
The Project and PM
Over the next 18 months, you'll be embarking on an amazing journey with one of the best Project Managers and mentors ever produced. This one-of-a-kind rehabilitation centre is worth around $30M and is set to be state-of-the-art for SA, with no expense spared to ensure the complex stands out above all others, so it's well and truly put on the map once it's opened.
The gentleman you'll be reporting to has travelled the globe, managing some of the most complex projects the world has to offer. Now, having moved his family here a few years ago, I was lucky enough to find him, get to know him, place him, and now work with him on building his team over the coming month to make sure the exciting task of building this amazing centre just outside the Adelaide CBD starts strong in October.
The Quals & Exp
Hoping to find local SA experience as a Foreman or Site Supervisor on construction projects, with a Tier 2 or Tier 3 principal contractor or developer.
Naturally specialising in the front-end structure of the project, not the fit-out
Strong knowledge of construction processes, techniques, and safety standards.
Excellent leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
Proficiency in interpreting construction plans and specifications would be a plus, but not essential.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick, effective decisions under pressure.
Relevant trade qualifications or equivalent experience in construction management.
You’d be overseeing all on-site activities to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Supervise and coordinate site personnel, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure the efficient execution of the project.
Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and promote a strong safety culture on-site.
Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress and quality of work.
Communicate effectively with the project manager, site manager, client, and subcontractors to address any issues and keep the project on track.
Manage site documentation, including daily logs, safety records, and material orders
The Personal
I’ve worked with this business for years and placed over a dozen personnel within it, so I believe I have a good understanding of the personal and professional background they are seeking.
Although they are not into micromanaging, the place is built on top performers who want to get ahead, learn, and grow in a traditional, old-fashioned way. Not by talking, but by doing, and if mistakes happen along the way, which they will, so be it.
Meaning, if you prefer corporate builders with their red tape, systems, procedures, and all that comes with it, this isn’t the place for you.
If this aligns with your personality and professional approach, then I think we’ll have a lot to discuss.
The Professional
It’s not lost on me that being a structures foreman for many is a position that they fall into on the journey of being a tradesman, then leading hand/foreman.
It could have been the right place or the right / or wrong time, ha-ha, but you got it done and then repeated it on a couple more projects. Which is great!
But the person I know they are looking for this time around would most probably have been a concreter, formworker, or steel fixer in the past and worked his way up.
Not saying it’s a deal breaker if you haven’t, but they do need …
An SF who understands commercial, residential, and even decorative concrete.
An SF who knows how to supervise the civil preparation works and the steel fixing.
An SF who can supervise the formwork carpenters, the concreters, and the pump operators autonomously and confidently as a leader.
The Consultant
I’ve been doing construction recruitment my entire professional life, and I'm still loving every minute of it. I think almost 14 years now!
If you’d like to know more about me, CTA, or the work I’ve done in SA over the years, please check the Sourcr link below.
I look forward to speaking with you.
Have a great day!
