About the role

As the Library Technician – Young People’s Services, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of inclusive and engaging library programs, environments, and collections tailored to children and young people. Working closely with the Young People’s Services Coordinator and the Young People’s Services Team, you will assist in the planning, promotion, and evaluation of literacy-focused initiatives. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning, delivering and promoting inclusive and exciting programmes specifically for children and young people.
  • Providing excellent front of house customer service to the community.
  • Selecting and maintaining collections that meet the needs of children, youth, and their caregivers.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and educate customers on digital library tools.
  • Supervising shifts and managing rosters in the absence of Branch Librarians.
  • Contributing to promotional content such as blog posts and online event materials.

This role is initially based at both the Success and Coolbellup Public Libraries at the City of Cockburn.

About You

You are a passionate and customer-focused library professional with a strong commitment to supporting literacy development in children and young people. You bring:

  • Recognised library qualifications and eligibility for Technician membership with ALIA.
  • Experience in planning and delivering programs for children and youth, with a sound understanding of developmental reading stages.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, enabling you to engage effectively with diverse community members and team colleagues.
  • Technical proficiency, including troubleshooting digital applications and using social media and other technologies in a library setting.
  • Excellent customer service skills, and experience in a supervisory role
  • Knowledge of contemporary library practices, including cataloguing, classification, and collection development for young audiences.
  • Initiative and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

A current Working with Children Check and National Police Certificate are required, and a driver’s licence is desirable.

Salary: $47.50 - $50.66 (prorata basis inclusive of 10% loading for working unsociable hours), depending on skills and qualifications

Hours: 45.5 hours per fortnight
