Complex Programs | Governance | Federal Government Projects

Gov Recruit is seeking experienced Project Managers (EL1 equivalent) or Senior Project Officers (APS6 equivalent) to lead the delivery of complex business and technical projects across multiple high-profile Federal Government initiatives. This role provides the opportunity to directly support nationally significant programs with real impact for Australians.

Responsibilities

Deliver complex projects within agreed scope, schedule, and budget.

Map dependencies across projects and manage scheduling within programs of work.

Oversee program governance including financials, reporting, risks/issues, benefits, and vendor engagement.

Apply and adapt delivery methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid) to achieve outcomes.

Develop Board papers and SES-level briefings.

Build program vision and foster collaborative multi-disciplinary teams.

Manage third-party vendors and contracts to ensure delivery of requirements.

Provide leadership and resilience in challenging and high-pressure environments.

Essential Skills and Experience

5+ years’ Project Management/Project Officer experience delivering complex business and/or technical projects.

Proven experience influencing stakeholders and engaging third-party vendors.

Strong program governance knowledge: planning, reporting, financials, risks, benefits, dependencies.

Demonstrated ability to adapt methodologies to project needs (Agile, Hybrid, Waterfall, Prince2, MSP).

Excellent communication skills, with experience preparing SES-level board papers and briefing packs.

Resilience, flexibility, and the ability to manage competing priorities under pressure.

Manage several projects, priorities, and tasks as delegated.

Experience working within a Federal Government environment

NV1 clearance required.

Desirable

Project Management qualifications (e.g. PRINCE2, PMP, Agile, SAFe).

Experience with Agile project delivery and tools. Experience with Microsoft Azure DevOps are highly desirable.

Project managers knowledge of Essential Eight, ISM, and Security Maturity frameworks.

Previous experience within law enforcement or intelligence projects.
