About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our federal government client's data engineering team in Melbourne. This is an exciting opportunity to work on large-scale data initiatives within a complex enterprise environment.

In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building and optimising data pipelines and infrastructure to support critical data and analytics capabilities. You'll work with modern data engineering technologies, with a particular focus on Apache Spark/PySpark for large-scale data processing.
As a senior member of the team, you'll contribute to technical decision-making, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate closely with data scientists, analysts and other stakeholders to deliver robust data solutions.

Security Requirements

• Must currently hold an NV1 (Negative Vetting Level 1) Security Clearance or above
• NV2 is preferred, NV1 is essential
• Australian Citizenship is essential

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build and optimise scalable data pipelines and ETL processes
• Develop and maintain data infrastructure using Spark/PySpark
• Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver data solutions that meet business requirements
• Ensure data quality, reliability and performance across systems
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to team members

Key Skills

• Strong experience with Apache Spark and PySpark in production environments
• Proficiency in Python and SQL
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP)
• Solid understanding of data modelling, data warehousing and ETL best practices
• Experience with data pipeline orchestration tools
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
