A key Queensland State Government department is seeking a AO6 Senior Communications Advisor to lead strategic engagement initiatives on the Sunshine Coast. This is a unique opportunity to shape public narratives and play a central role in delivering vital infrastructure developments that will benefit the community for years to come.

This is a 2-year contract (38 hours per week) with the possibility of a further 12-month extension. The position is offered at $77–$83 per hour plus superannuation.

The ideal candidate will bring:

• Demonstrated experience in communications, community engagement, or public relations, ideally within government or infrastructure sectors
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information into clear, accessible messages
• Strong relationship-building skills with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government, contractors, and community groups
• A proven ability to design and deliver strategic communication campaigns that align with project goals
• Knowledge of infrastructure or transport projects (highly regarded)
• Experience with community engagement frameworks and tools (IAP2 Certification desirable)
• Skills in social media management and digital content creation
• An understanding of government processes and regulatory requirements

Preferred Background

• Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field
• Previous experience working within or alongside government departments
• A track record of managing complex stakeholder relationships in dynamic environments
