Offering 507-beds, services include an emergency department, operating theatres, endoscopy suites, birth suite and maternity ward, medical library and education center.
Your role
You will provide a high standard of patient care, act as a clinical resource and effectively manage resources to deliver quality patient outcomes in areas of specialty.
Our Surgicentre provides preoperative, perioperative and postoperative care to surgical patients in a range of surgical specialities. These include Minor Orthopaedic, Minor Gynae, Pain, Oral, Plastics and Ophthalmic Surgery.
St John of God Murdoch Hospital now have a permanent part-time, position available for a Clinical Nurse with Perioperative/PACU experience to join our multidisciplinary team.
The Position
- Supervise nursing practice and take responsibility for standard of nursing care delivered.
- Act as a clinical resource, maintain and develop clinical skills relevant to area of practice.
- Initiate review and coordinate care of patients with complex health problems.
- Serve as a patient advocate, protecting the rights and safety of patients at all times.
- Evaluate the quality of nursing practice and participate in quality improvement initiatives to improve patient outcomes.
- Ensure the correct use and care of all hospital equipment by self and colleagues.
- Actively contribute to the development of clinical policies and procedures in area of specialty.
- Ensure documentation meets hospital standards and legal requirements.
- Deputise for the Nurse Manager as required.
- Prioritise departmental workloads using resources appropriately and cost effectively.
- Coordinate the department effectively ensuring continuity of care, and takes action on problems encountered.
- Participate in the performance management of caregivers in conjunction with the Nurse Manager.
- Participate in and takes responsibility for the education of other caregivers by conducting formal and informal teaching sessions.
- Assist in developing, implementing and reviewing specific departmental orientation programs with Nurse Manager, act as a preceptor as required.
- Supervise the practice of Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses and Patient Care Assistants.
- Assist the Nurse Manager with the submission of annual capital budget and business plans relevant to the Department.
- Review products and equipment and provide documentation and education on evaluation.
- Act as shift coordinator as required and in liaison with the Nurse / After Hours Manager and monitors staffing levels continuously to ensure appropriate numbers of skills staff are available within the agreed productivity targets.
You will have demonstrated strong leadership ability, working collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment with well-developed skills in communication, conflict resolution, negotiation and problem solving.
To succeed you will hold registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse, relevant post registration qualification and have current perioperative experience.

- Salary: $104,903 to $110,954 (pro rata for part-time), plus 12% superannuation
- A permanent part-time position, working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday
