Be part of the exciting tropical plant industries of the Northern Territory and participate in the Research, Development and Extension team.
The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) was formed in August 2024 to enable agricultural producers to grow their business and the industry. Situated within DAF, the Plant Industries work unit provides regional engagement and support services for developing broadacre cropping opportunities in the Northern Territory and incorporates the Research and Development Team.

In line with Free, Prior and Informed Concept (FPIC), you will actively engage with local communities, Traditional Owners, land councils and development corporations to attain a sound understanding of sustainable agriculture opportunities. You will also work with participating communities to establish demonstration sites of crops, collect and undertake research, and attend community events and consultations.
To be successful you require a bachelor’s degree in social science, agricultural science or equivalent with relevant work experience. Sound understanding of Free, Prior and Informed Consent and human research ethics principles, and first-hand experience working with local communities and Aboriginal Communities on projects to achieve economic, environmental, and social sustainability.

In return, you will receive a competitive salary, 12% superannuation, six weeks’ recreation and three weeks’ personal leave, an additional 3 days paid leave over the Christmas shutdown and up to 17.5% annual leave loading.
If you reside outside the Territory, this is a great time to consider a move to the area known as the Big Rivers Region. Katherine is the fourth-largest town in the Territory with over 11,000 residents, amazing attractions; including a National Park with 13 impressive gorges carved from the ancient sandstone, thermal springs, stunning landscapes and a long and rich history of Aboriginal art and culture.
