The Teaching Specialist – School of Health plays a key role in fostering an inclusive, dynamic, and innovative teaching and learning environment that supports excellence, with a particular focus on mentoring teaching staff delivering the Diploma of Nursing.
The role champions the Inquiry-Based Model of Teaching and promotes the application of adult learning principles and contemporary evidence-based teaching practices, particularly within the context of Vocational Education and Training (VET).This role will mentor new and early-career educators, contribute to the ongoing development of teaching capability within the School, and support a positive, collaborative teaching culture that aligns with the values and goals of the School of Health.
Reporting to the Academic Governance Manager (Head of Discipline) you will be supporting the annual education reviews, peer reviews of teaching and the ANMAC accreditation of the Diploma of Nursing.
Key Responsibilities
Mentorship & Capability Building
Mentor and coach new and early-career educators to enhance their teaching practices, including classroom and online education delivery and assessment strategies.
Facilitate workshops and one-on-one coaching sessions to build staff capacity in inquiry-based learning and adult education.
Model reflective practice and foster a culture of continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
Teaching & Curriculum Development
Deliver high-quality, student-centered teaching using inquiry-based and experiential learning approaches.
Contribute to curriculum review processes, ensuring alignment with industry standards, VET requirements, and contemporary pedagogical frameworks.
Promote the integration of real-world, practice-based learning in health programs, particularly nursing, age care and disability.
Leadership in Teaching Practice
Promote best practices in teaching and learning across the School, particularly in relation to adult learning theory and practice.
Support the design and implementation of innovative teaching strategies, tools, and technologies.
Engage with scholarly literature and professional development to remain current in teaching trends, with a focus on vocational health education.
Community & Culture Building
Actively contribute to building a collegial, respectful, and inclusive teaching environment.
Support collaboration and knowledge-sharing across the School.
Encourage practices that promote student engagement, wellbeing, and success.
Key Selection Criteria
Essential:
Postgraduate qualifications in Adult Education or equivalent.
Hold a Bachelor of Nursing and an incumbered registration with the relevant professional body AHPRA.
Demonstrated experience in Vocational Education and Training (VET), including an understanding of competency-based training and assessment.
Proven expertise in inquiry-based learning methodologies and adult learning principles.
Experience in mentoring and supporting new educators in academic or VET settings.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to foster collaboration and collegiality within academic teams.
Commitment to ongoing professional development and reflective practice.
