Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Legal Officer (General Legal) to join , Chancellery Division.

The Legal Officer will be part of a dynamic in-house legal team. Reporting to QUT’s General Counsel, the General Legal team is led by the Director, Legal Services and is responsible for providing a wide range of in-house legal advice to offices of the University, including the Vice-Chancellor, University Registrar and other members of the senior executive.

The Office of the General Counsel is led by the General Counsel and is responsible for providing legal services to the University. It provides legal advice to the Vice-Chancellor and President, Senior Executive and Council. The portfolio also includes the assurance and audit office, which provides independent analysis, appraisals, recommendations, advice and information about QUT’s internal control systems, effectiveness, and performance quality..

What you need to succeed

  1. A degree in Law and admission as a legal practitioner in the State of Queensland, with at least a restricted practising certificate and at least 6 years post-admission legal experience (or equivalent).
  2. Demonstrated ability to draft a wide variety of legal documents, with particular emphasis on drafting of agreements in a plain English drafting style.
  3. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate practical legal advice to a diverse range of clients across the University.
  4. Demonstrated time management and organisational skills with a sound ability to prioritise tasks according to competing deadlines and the ability to manage a high volume of work.
  5. Demonstrated attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy with minimal supervision.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a legal team.
