This organisation plays a vital role in preserving and sharing Australia’s cultural heritage.
With a national focus and a strong connection to community, it delivers programs, research and services that make a meaningful difference.
The Strategic Operations Group underpins this important work, providing expert support in governance, finance, digital services, people services and major facilities.
The Opportunity
This is an exciting chance to step into a senior payroll position within a small, collaborative team.
You’ll be the go-to person for payroll advice across the Institute, working closely with an external provider and internal stakeholders to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
This role offers plenty of variety, challenging work, and the opportunity to apply your APS payroll experience in a leadership capacity.
If you’re looking to build on your skills in a supportive environment, this role will give you the platform to grow, while contributing to a workplace that values culture, community and people.
The Role
Reporting to the Manager, People Services, you will be responsible for:
- Managing end-to-end payroll processes, working with an external provider to deliver accurate fortnightly pay
- Processing payroll across the employee lifecycle, including commencements, terminations, leave, superannuation, higher duties, and allowances
- Ensuring accurate records management across SAP and internal systems
- Providing support for the Employee Self Service portal and HR ticketing system
- Advising staff and managers on conditions of service, legislation, and policies, including the Enterprise Agreement and relevant Acts
- Building strong relationships with staff and leaders to provide high-quality, timely payroll and HR advice
The Ideal Person
You are a confident payroll professional with APS experience, looking to step up into a senior role. With a strong eye for detail and a service-oriented mindset, you can balance accuracy with efficiency and enjoy solving payroll challenges.
You are highly organised, a clear communicator, and able to engage effectively with people at all levels. Most importantly, you understand and respect the cultural context of the work, and bring sensitivity and flexibility when engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This role is perfect for someone who enjoys being the "safe pair of hands" in payroll, but also wants to grow into a more senior space where your judgement, advice, and problem-solving skills will be valued.
Salary / Rate
- $65/hr - $75/hr + Super
- 3-month labour hire contract
