About the role
Reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Financial Officer will oversee the Shire’s accounting functions, including financial reporting, budget coordination, statutory compliance, and audit liaison.

Duties

• Prepare financial reports and budgets in consultation with the DCEO
• Oversee audits, statutory returns, and compliance with local government regulations and accounting standards
• Manage audits and liaise with external auditors
• Oversee statutory returns (GST, FBT, etc.) and manage investment of surplus funds
• Manage all rates-related tasks including enquiries, processing, reconciliation, and debt recovery
• Lead and support finance, IT, and customer service teams while providing sound financial advice and solutions

Skills & experience

• Relevant qualifications in in accounting, business, or related field
• Experience in local government finance preferable
• 5–10 years in accounting and financial reporting
• Ability to critically analyse data and provide clear financial advice
• Strong communication and team supervision skills
