About the role

Join a team that’s driving bold, inspirational, and sustainable growth in one of the world’s most dynamic cities. The Strategy, Planning and Climate Change Division is at the forefront of Melbourne’s evolution, partnering with Traditional Owners, communities, and stakeholders to imagine and realise the city’s future.

As an Urban Planner, you’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality development planning services that respond to the needs of a growing city. You’ll provide expert planning advice to a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders and make decisions on planning applications that help shape Melbourne’s urban landscape.

Working closely with the Manager Statutory Planning and a collaborative team of planners, you’ll contribute to both short- and long-term priorities set by the Planning Leadership Team. This is a hands-on role with real impact, perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment.

Be part of a team that’s guiding Melbourne’s next chapter.

Why join Team Melbourne?

Located on the traditional lands of the Bunurong Boon Wurrung and Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung peoples of the Kulin Nation, Melbourne is globally recognised as one of the most liveable, diverse, and dynamic cities.

At the heart of it all is the City of Melbourne – a passionate, purpose-driven organisation where your work truly matters. As part of Team Melbourne, you’ll help deliver what’s most important to the people who live, work, study, visit and invest in our great city.

We’re proud champions of diversity, committed to continuous improvement, and driven by a shared vision for a vibrant and sustainable future.

This is more than just a role – it’s your chance to make a real impact, contribute to something bigger, and shape Melbourne’s future alongside a collaborative and forward-thinking team.

About you

You’re a passionate and detail-oriented urban planning professional who thrives in a dynamic, collaborative environment. With a strong foundation in statutory planning, you bring technical expertise and sound judgment to every decision. You’re confident navigating complex planning applications and providing clear, insightful advice to a wide range of stakeholders.

Your communication skills are exceptional, allowing you to translate planning principles into practical outcomes that support Melbourne’s growth and sustainability. You’re proactive, adaptable, and committed to delivering high-quality work that aligns with the city’s bold vision for the future.

You value teamwork and build strong working relationships, especially with colleagues and leadership. You’re ready to contribute meaningfully to a team that’s shaping the next chapter of Melbourne’s urban story.
