Estimator (Electrical Infrastructure & Civil Utilities)
Role Purpose:
The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates and tender submissions for electrical infrastructure and civil utilities projects. This role requires a strong understanding of both civil construction methodologies and electrical utility works, ensuring estimates are commercially viable, technically compliant, and aligned with project requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Review and interpret project drawings, specifications, scope of works, and tender documents.
Prepare accurate cost estimates for civil and electrical infrastructure projects including trenching, conduits, substations, cabling, pits, and associated utilities.
Conduct quantity take-offs and develop detailed bills of quantities (BOQ).
Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotations, assess value, and negotiate pricing.
Analyse project risks, propose contingencies, and support the development of tender strategies.
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and design teams to ensure constructability and cost efficiency.
Prepare tender submissions, schedules, and supporting documentation.
Contribute to post-tender negotiations and contract handover processes.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry rates, market conditions, and construction methodologies.
Support cost planning and forecasting for ongoing projects.
Skills & Experience Required:
Proven experience as an Estimator in electrical infrastructure and/or civil utilities projects.
Strong knowledge of civil works (excavations, trenching, drainage, utilities) and electrical works (power distribution, HV/LV systems, substations, conduits, cabling).
Proficiency in estimating software and MS Excel.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contracts.
Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Attention to detail and strong commercial acumen.
Qualifications:
Degree/Diploma in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline (preferred).
Trade background with relevant estimating experience may be considered.
Knowledge of relevant standards and codes in the electrical and civil infrastructure sector.
