The Role

The Assistant Accountant works with the Province Business Manager and Provincial Office team to provide support for finance, bookkeeping, payroll and compliance as well as assisting other Works of the Province and ministries to maintain accurate accounting standards.

The work of the Assistant Accountant includes:

Maintaining finance records in accordance with GAAP and Province accounting standards;

Maintain the integrity and security of the accounting system, financial transactions and cash;

Preparation of monthly financial reports, reconciling bank accounts and term deposits, reconciling income statements, suspense accounts and balance sheet;

Processing and reconciliation of payroll as well as responding to payroll queries;

Working with internal/ external auditors,

Compliance, including Annual Information Statements for the ACNC, BAS and EOY processes including annual payment summaries to ATO.

Experience:

The person we are looking for will have all or some of the following:

Post secondary qualifications in accounting including CPA or equivalent, financial management, business administration or related discipline (minimum Cert IV in Bookkeeping);

A comprehensive knowledge of accounting standards and procedures including GAAP;

Excellent working knowledge of banking, payroll, purchasing, accounts receivable, accounts payable and managing reporting including balance sheet and bank reconciliation functions;

Excellent working knowledge of not for profit financial compliance requirements;

Proficient skills in contemporary computer applications including demonstratable expertise in MYOB, MS Excel and the Microsoft office suite;

Significant previous experience working as an assistant accountant in a small to medium sized organisation;

Ability to work with minimal supervision while still being a team player;

Willingness to work face to face in an office environment;

Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion;
