The Opportunity

We are looking for a motivated and hands-on Cafe / Retail Manager to join our small but growing team. This is a great opportunity for someone who’s looking to take the next step in their career, bring fresh ideas, and work in a supportive environment where initiative is valued.

You’ll be at the heart of our café and cheese shop, helping with everything from curating cheese selections and driving retail sales to refining a menu that celebrates our range of cheeses. You’ll make sure the space is always clean, safe, and inviting.

You’ll be working alongside our in-house cheese guru, who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience. With his expertise, you’ll have the chance to learn, collaborate, and deliver exceptional cheese experiences to our customers, while also partnering with our marketing and sales teams to shape and implement sales strategies. Together, you’ll lead the roll-out of events, product tastings, and other customer engagement initiatives, as well as represent the brand at food shows and industry events, sharing our passion for cheese with an even wider audience.

About Us

Moondarra Cheese is a family-owned Australian company and a leading producer of flavoured cream cheese. With over 25 years of experience, we supply all major supermarkets and export markets. In 2023, we expanded into premium artisan cheese by acquiring Tarago Cheese, home to the iconic Shadows of Blue.

Eighteen months ago, we opened the Moondarra Cheese Shop & Café in Dandenong South. The café is not just a destination, it’s a key part of our strategy to connect customers with our products, share our love of cheese, and drive sales.

Now, we’re ready to take things to the next level with events, tastings, and curated experiences, and we’re looking for the right person to help lead that growth.

Day-to-day operations

Oversee and participate in daily café operations, ensuring efficient and welcoming service

Prepare high-quality coffee, sandwiches, and food with pride

Maintain consistency across food and beverage preparation and presentation

Review and update the café menu on a regular basis to ensure quality, seasonality, and customer appeal

Manage stock, ordering, and reduce waste

Lead, train, and manage a small team

Support the cheese area by interacting with customers, selling cheese, and cutting and wrapping cheese for sale

Contribute ideas to improve café offerings and service

Collaborate on events, tastings, and cheese-focused experiences

Help align the café with overall business goals, including sales targets and customer engagement

Maintain food safety and hygiene standards

Help ensure OH&S and compliance across all operations

What We’re Looking For

1–3 years’ experience in café, hospitality, or food retail

Passion for cheese (experience working with cheese a bonus)

Solid barista skills and a love of quality food and coffee

Background in commercial cookery or a commercial kitchen (preferred)

Interest in sales, promotions, or event planning

Initiative to improve systems and lead with purpose

Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (or willingness to obtain)

Strong communication and people skills

Confident with POS and admin (Square POS preferred but not essential)
