Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Product Engineer – Medium Voltage to join our engineering team. This role is critical in the design, specification, manufacturing support, testing, and commissioning of medium voltage (MV) products, including transformers, ring main units (RMUs), and medium voltage switchboards.

The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience across the full product lifecycle and demonstrate advanced technical proficiency in PLC/SCADA programming, particularly for grid applications. A strong understanding of solar farms and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) integration into MV networks is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

Design & Development:

Lead or support the design and development of MV products including transformers, RMUs, and switchboards.

Prepare detailed engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.

Ensure compliance with relevant IEC/ANSI standards and utility requirements.

Specification & Documentation:

Develop and review technical specifications for tenders and projects.

Collaborate with sales, project managers, and clients to define functional requirements.

Maintain up-to-date documentation for design revisions and engineering changes.

Manufacturing Support:

Provide technical support during the manufacturing process to ensure build quality and conformity to design.

Collaborate with production teams to resolve design-related issues.

Testing & Commissioning:

Develop test plans and procedures for factory and site acceptance testing (FAT/SAT).

Oversee or perform functional and performance testing of MV equipment.

Lead on-site commissioning and troubleshooting for customer installations.

PLC/SCADA Programming:

Design and implement advanced PLC and SCADA systems for grid-connected MV applications.

Program and integrate communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850).

Ensure cyber-secure and reliable operation of control and monitoring systems.

Renewable Integration:

Provide engineering expertise for the connection of solar farms and BESS to medium voltage networks.

Analyse and support grid compliance, protection coordination, and interconnection requirements.

Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (Master's preferred).

Professional registration with Engineers Australia (or eligibility to obtain) is highly regarded.

5+ years of hands-on experience in engineering MV products (transformers, RMUs, switchboards).

Strong understanding of MV electrical design principles and protection schemes.

Proven experience with PLC/SCADA systems in power or industrial applications.

Experience with grid-connected solar and BESS systems is highly desirable.

Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, EPLAN) and electrical simulation tools (e.g., ETAP, DIgSILENT).

Strong knowledge of Australian Standards (AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 61936) and IEC standards (AS/IEC 62271, AS/IEC 60076) for MV equipment design and safety compliance.

Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project coordination skills.

Willingness to travel to project sites as required.

Preferred Skills:

Knowledge of digital substations and IEC 61850 integration.

Familiarity with utility interconnection processes and grid codes.

Experience in automation, telemetry, and control systems for power distribution.

Ability to interpret and apply Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) and schematics.

Why Join Us:

Work with a team of forward-thinking engineers in the evolving energy sector.

Be involved in critical infrastructure projects including renewable energy and smart grids.

Opportunity to innovate in the integration of advanced technologies with traditional MV equipment.
