Systems Administrator
Loddon Shire Council
Posted 5 days ago
About the role:
Loddon Shire Council is seeking a capable and motivated Systems Administrator to help lead the ongoing modernisation of our core IT infrastructure.
This role sits within a newly established operating model, shaped by our new, multi-year, fully funded IT Strategy - designed to modernise platforms, uplift security, and embed a culture of learning, professional growth, and technical excellence.
You will be the first of two new Systems Administrators supporting the organisation, working collaboratively to own infrastructure, drive change, and maintain strong operational standards. While the internal team is small, it is highly connected - supported by a structured ecosystem of vendors, partner councils, and managed services.
As part of this role, you will work closely with:
a managed service desk, responsible for frontline support and triage
Collaborative council IT teams, jointly developing shared standards and managing a common SOE
a managed SOC/SIEM provider, delivering security monitoring, alerting, and incident response
a managed backup and disaster recovery partner, ensuring resilience across critical systems
Your primary focus will be more on infrastructure ownership, managing escalation, and change – and less on frontline support.
You will report to a technically engaged and supportive IT Manager who understands the challenges of technical roles and is committed to creating an environment where people are empowered to grow. You will be trusted to take ownership of your work, while being supported with the time and space to continually deepen your skills.
In this role, you will:
own and maintain the IT infrastructure including M365, Windows Server, AD/Entra ID, firewalls and networking, and endpoint platforms
act as the technical escalation point for complex issues across systems and services
play a key role in planning and delivering infrastructure and security change, including cloud readiness, operational uplift, and enterprise IT projects
take ownership of core IT operations - including lifecycle management of network, server, and endpoint environments; development of the shared SOE; security control implementation (e.g. Conditional Access, Email security, EDR, firewall, SDWAN and SASE); system patching; and disaster recovery readiness
contribute to a team culture that values transparency, strong technical standards, and continuous improvement
This is a role with real responsibility, real variety, and real opportunity to grow - backed by a strategy and leadership approach that recognises the importance of both challenge and support.
About you:
You are confident in your skills and looking for a role where you can apply them meaningfully, deepen them further, and be trusted to make a difference.
You might be an experienced IT administrator looking for variety, ownership, and a stronger connection to the outcomes of your work. Or you could be a capable Level 2 or early Level 3 technician ready to take the next step and show what you are capable of in a well-supported, growth-focused environment.
You are someone who:
has solid experience with M365, Windows Server, Active Directory/Entra ID and endpoint administration
can troubleshoot methodically, configure with intent, and document clearly
values standards, good change control, and building environments that are secure, reliable, and maintainable
is motivated to continuously improve - whether that’s learning new tools, strengthening your craft, or sharing knowledge with others
thrives in a culture of trust, transparency, and mutual support - where mistakes are acknowledged without blame, learning is shared, and the team backs each other to improve, grow, and deliver with integrity.
