Our client is seeking a General Manager to take on a pivotal leadership role within a well-established business, in the Public Amenity Open Space Maintenance industry, that has been serving the Sunshine Coast community for more than 20 years.
With a workforce of 40–45 employees at peak, and long-term Council contracts in place, this role is the single point of accountability for ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant service delivery — while building and sustaining a capable, engaged, and high-performing team.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the CEO/Director, you will oversee all aspects of day-to-day operations, including:
Leadership & People Development: Lead, mentor, and inspire a diverse workforce. Drive succession planning, training, and proactive engagement to create a culture where staff feel safe, supported, and valued.
Operational Oversight: Monitor depot and field performance, logistics, audits, and fleet management to ensure smooth and efficient service delivery.
Client & Contract Management: Act as the escalation point for client relationships, represent the organisation in council reviews, and support KPI achievement across contracts.
Compliance & Governance: Embed ISO-certified systems, review incidents, and ensure workplace safety and compliance at every level.
Financial & Strategic Accountability: Manage budgets, efficiency, and labour productivity, while contributing to business growth, risk management, and tendering opportunities.
This role includes a structured six-month handover process with the CEO to ensure a seamless transition and set you up for success.
About You
We're looking for a leader who can balance strategic oversight with hands-on involvement. Ideally, you will bring:
Proven experience leading multiple teams or departments.
Strong operational and financial management capability.
High emotional intelligence, with excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Demonstrated success in government or council contract management (highly desirable).
Knowledge of compliance and ISO systems, with a proactive approach to safety and risk.
Qualifications in Horticulture, Landscaping, Arboriculture, Conservation & Land Management, OR Business/Leadership (MBA preferred).
