Role Overview
As Waste Project Lead, you'll join a dedicated team delivering critical waste projects and services that shape the future of our community. From landfill rehabilitation and kerbside reform to organics processing and resource recovery, you’ll be at the forefront of innovative, sustainable practices that align with environmental regulations and community expectations.

What You’ll Be Doing
Lead Key Projects: Oversee complex waste initiatives including landfill upgrades, kerbside service improvements, and organics infrastructure.
Drive Compliance: Ensure all operations meet EPA standards and uphold the highest levels of environmental performance.
Engage the Community: Collaborate with residents, run educational campaigns, and build awareness around waste and recycling services.
Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with the Waste Management Coordinator and other departments to deliver smart, efficient services.
Leverage Data & Insights: Monitor performance, generate compliance reports, and use insights to guide continuous improvement.
Secure Funding: Identify and manage grant opportunities to drive new projects forward.
What You’ll Bring
A tertiary qualification in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Project Management, or Asset Management.
Demonstrated experience leading waste-related projects from concept to completion.
Technical expertise in landfill operations, organics processing, resource recovery, and municipal waste systems.
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate complex issues into actionable solutions.
Strategic problem-solving and a passion for delivering sustainable outcomes.
A current driver’s licence for on-site project oversight.

The Rural City of Wangaratta was formed from the merger of the City of Wangaratta, the Shires of Oxley and Wangaratta and parts of the Shires of Beechworth, Benalla and Yarrawonga.
