An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Payroll Officer to join a highly respected private wealth organisation based in the heart of Sydney CBD. This role offers you the chance to be part of a collaborative and passionate finance team that is committed to delivering exceptional results for high net worth clients. With a focus on long-term relationships, this organisation values every contribution and celebrates collective achievements, ensuring your work truly makes an impact. You will enjoy a supportive environment where ongoing professional development is prioritised, and your ideas for process improvement are welcomed. The position comes with a competitive salary of $90,000 plus superannuation, reflecting the importance placed on attracting knowledgeable and dependable professionals who thrive in environments that value integrity, accuracy, and teamwork.

What you'll do:

As a Payroll Officer within this esteemed financial services organisation, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless delivery of payroll services for a diverse workforce. Your day-to-day responsibilities will see you managing complex payroll processes from start to finish, handling sensitive employee data with discretion, and providing expert support across various payroll functions. You will collaborate closely with both internal colleagues and external partners to resolve queries swiftly while contributing to ongoing process improvements that drive operational excellence. Your ability to adapt in a changing environment will be key as you assist with month-end reporting cycles, tax lodgements, reconciliations, and system enhancements. Success in this role will come from your commitment to accuracy, your proactive approach to problem-solving, and your enthusiasm for supporting others within a high-performing team.

  • Process end-to-end monthly payroll for approximately 420 employees, ensuring all payments are accurate and delivered on time.
  • Manage onboarding and offboarding payroll activities including new starters and terminations with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Handle incentive payments, adjustments, parental leave calculations, redundancies, and other payroll-related changes efficiently.
  • Oversee superannuation contributions and ad-hoc payments while maintaining compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Liaise with internal teams and external partners to resolve payroll queries promptly and provide guidance to employees as needed.
  • Prepare month-end reports, process journals, and complete balance sheet reconciliations for all payroll-related accounts including annual leave and long service leave.
  • Undertake payroll tax preparation and lodgement duties in accordance with statutory requirements.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to reconcile expat payrolls accurately each month.
  • Assist in process improvement initiatives and automation projects aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the payroll function.
  • Support audit requests and ad-hoc reporting needs during peak periods to ensure smooth financial operations.

What you bring:

To excel as a Payroll Officer in this organisation, you will bring substantial hands-on experience managing end-to-end payroll processes within medium-to-large businesses. Your background may include working in financial services or similarly regulated sectors where confidentiality is paramount. You possess advanced technical skills in Excel alongside an aptitude for learning new systems rapidly. Your interpersonal strengths enable you to build trust across teams while offering empathetic support to colleagues navigating payroll matters. A keen eye for detail ensures your work is consistently accurate even when deadlines are tight. You thrive when collaborating towards shared goals, demonstrating flexibility as priorities shift. Above all else, your ethical approach underpins everything you do-making you someone others can depend on for honest advice and reliable outcomes.

  • A minimum of three to five years' experience in a similar Payroll Officer position within a complex organisational structure.
  • Previous exposure to financial services environments is highly regarded but not essential for success in this role.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required; familiarity with ADP or Workday systems would be advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement while upholding the highest standards of integrity and ethics at all times.
  • A collaborative mindset with proven experience working effectively as part of a supportive finance team.
  • Resourcefulness combined with a passion for continuous improvement and adaptability when faced with change or ambiguity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills enabling you to explain complex information clearly to colleagues at all levels.
  • Exceptional attention to detail coupled with strong analytical skills for resolving issues quickly and accurately under pressure.
  • Outstanding prioritisation abilities allowing you to manage multiple tasks simultaneously during busy periods without compromising quality.
  • Relevant qualifications such as a diploma or certificate in accounting or payroll courses are required.
