Our client, with over 50 years industry expertise, delivers 24/7 commercial cleaning and maintenance services to a nationwide client base. With a strong focus on quality, reliability, and teamwork, they are experiencing sustained growth and now seek a skilled Payroll Officer to join their collaborative Finance team.
Reporting directly to the CFO, you will be a key member of a close-knit payroll function (team of 2) within a larger Finance team. You will be responsible for end-to-end payroll for a weekly payroll of 75 employees (and growing), ensuring accuracy, compliance, and an exceptional level of service to staff and managers.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end payroll process for weekly pay cycles, ensuring timeliness and accuracy.
- Maintain payroll records, process new starters, terminations, and variations.
- Interpret and apply relevant awards and employment legislation.
- Calculate and process leave entitlements, overtime, and allowances.
- Manage payroll queries, providing prompt and professional responses.
- Prepare and reconcile payroll journals, month-end and year-end payroll reports.
- Ensure compliance with ATO, superannuation, payroll tax, and other statutory requirements.
- Coordinate end-of-year payroll processes and EOFY reporting.
- Support the preparation and lodgement of payroll tax returns.
- Work closely with the WHS team to ensure alignment between payroll and safety compliance.
- Partner with Finance colleagues to provide payroll data for budgeting, reporting, and audits.
- Drive process improvements and identify opportunities to add value to the payroll function.
About You
- Minimum 5 years' experience in an end-to-end payroll role.
- Strong working knowledge of payroll legislation, awards, and compliance requirements.
- Experience with high-volume weekly payrolls (exposure to a growing business is highly regarded).
- Solid Excel skills and experience with payroll/HRIS systems.
- Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and organisational skills.
- Strong communication skills with a customer-service focus.
- Ability to work effectively in a small team and collaborate across Finance.
- Proactive mindset with the ability to suggest and implement improvements.
