Salary range $92,600 - $105,064 plus statutory superannuation

Are you an exceptional leader?

Do you have a passion for motivating staff to reach their potential?

Can you apply sound theoretical and practical expertise to resolve operational service delivery problems?

If you fit this profile, then you could join the dynamic Teacher Engagement and Registration Branch at VIT with an exciting and challenging mandate to enable quality teaching, and provide for the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.

The Team Leader role offers an outstanding career opportunity for a professional who is passionate about using their expertise and leadership to support VIT in its regulation of Victorian teachers. With expert knowledge on leading a team in a high-volume registration / license / membership processing environment, with strong written and verbal communication skills, the role will ensure VIT is able to undertake high quality and efficient application assessments.

Be part of a forward-thinking, risk-based regulator where ideas and opinions are valued.

About the role

The purpose of the role is to manage teacher registration (and related) enquiries and application assessments, according to legislative and policy requirements, in an effective and timely manner.

The incumbent will do this by assessing complex applications for teacher registration (and related applications); handling complex telephone enquiries from teachers, principals, employers and other stakeholders; providing quality assurance checks on work; and developing and implementing improvements to process delivery.

A key part of this role is supervising and managing the day-to-day organisation, welfare and performance of a team of 6-10 staff. This will require creating an inspiring team environment with an open communication culture by

  • identifying training needs and providing coaching.

Please see the position description for more details.

About you

As an experienced team leader, you will have experience in creating and maintaining an inspiring team environment. You will have experience in processing applications in a high-volume environment, and ideally a passion for child safety and experience working within the education sector.

You will have strong leadership skills combined with a highly organised approach and a proven track record in leading a team in a fast paced and demanding environment. In addition to this, as the successful candidate, you will have:

  • strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain complex concepts, policies and processes to, and obtain information from, stakeholders
  • good conceptual and analytical abilities to identify and segment problems into the appropriate escalation point, to recognise the impacts of outputs, and to seek ways to improve outcomes
  • proven ability to interpret and apply business plans and policies, and to translate this into effective risk management practices.
  • demonstrated ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships, including the ability to effectively manage and motivate a multidisciplinary team
  • demonstration of the VIT behaviours and Victorian public sector values, behaving in a principled and respectful manner at all times
  • flexibility, resilience and a strong attention to detail.
  • experience in high-volume customer service or registration / license / membership processing environment requiring the application of complex legislation, policy and / or process is desirable.
