Public Transport Services help keep Brisbane residents and visitors moving across our city. Our group operates and maintains one of the largest public transport fleets in Australia. Council’s 8 bus depots, spread across the city, ensure efficient operation of Council’s fleet. The bus garages provide onsite dedicated maintenance, cleaning and refuelling and employee amenities.
The Role
The Garage Manager provides strong and proactive leadership to deliver a range of maintenance and repair services contributing to a safe, efficient, and reliable bus and metro service for the travelling public.
You will operate a safe, efficient, strategic, and cost-effective garage through active planning, control, and optimisation of garage resources and activities.
Reporting to the Manager, Vehicle Maintenance, you will take ownership of your garage to ensure the core business of fleet maintenance is delivered in line with budget. You will have four direct reports and be overall responsible for leading, guiding and developing the wider team of heavy vehicle mechanics, auto electricians, coach builders, bus assistants, and trade apprentices.
Partner with a range of customers and stakeholders including other garage managers and external providers to drive safety, continuous improvements, and future business efficiencies.
To be successful you will have:
- experience in applying relevant legislative, safety and maintenance standards in a fleet maintenance environment
- evidence of capabilities in Council’s Leadership Blueprint
- strong values-based leadership skills, with ability to mentor and guide a diverse team
- experience in strategic business planning initiatives to drive continuous improvement
- well-developed skills and experience in the preparation and management of budgets
- highly developed interpersonal, consultation and negotiation skills
- a C class licence is essential to perform this role.
