Data Centre Operations Engineer

About the company

At AC3, our purpose is to make technology real. As leaders in secure multi-cloud and managed services, we support over 50% of NSW State Government and 700+ enterprise customers from offices in Sydney, Melbourne, and Auckland. We’re growing fast and we’re proud of our down-to-earth, high-trust culture.

About the Role

As a Data Centre Operations Engineer, you’ll play a hands-on role in the management of AC3’s enterprise-grade data centres across Sydney. You will be responsible for keeping our data centres running smoothly, securely, and to world-class standards, while being the main point of contact for customers, vendors, and contractors onsite.

Your daily responsibilities will range from commissioning and decommissioning hardware (removing, installing, and testing servers, storage, and network gear), to ensuring cabling hygiene, performing security checks, and escorting external parties working in the facility. You will also help maintain critical infrastructure (UPS, HVAC, generators), support monitoring and alerting systems, and ensure all asset records are accurate and up to date.

This role requires someone who can communicate clearly and confidently with customers and vendors, ensuring professional interactions while protecting AC3’s standards and security. This role is a pathway to leadership at AC3 for the right candidate.

You’ll be based in Sydney, travelling between AC3’s data centre sites at Silverwater, Eastern Creek, and surrounding areas.

What We’re Looking For
Essential:

  • Australian Citizen
  • Australian Drivers Licence (currant)
  • Dedicated transport options (Car/Motorbike)
  • 2–3 years of hands-on experience in enterprise-grade or colocation data centres.
  • Experience with commissioning and decommissioning hardware (server, storage, and network equipment).
  • Solid understanding of critical infrastructure: UPS, HVAC, generators, power, and cabling standards.
  • Excellent communication skills — able to clearly explain technical issues to customers, vendors, and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership, and maintain a world-class environment (clean builds, cabling hygiene, zero preventable incidents).

Desirable:

  • ITIL4 or equivalent certification.
  • Vendor qualifications relevant to data centre facilities.
  • Previous exposure to monitoring/alerting systems.
  • Project or team leadership experience (or aspirations to step up).

Benefits

  • $90,000 – $110,000 + Superannuation + Bonus + Allowances
  • Perks like discounted lifestyle benefits, salary packaging, and half-day Fridays once a month
  • Join one of Australia’s Best Places to Work with a tight-knit, supportive team
  • Work with proactive and open-minded leadership that genuinely care and collaborate to create effective outcomes
  • Work for an organisation that prioritises company culture and employee satisfaction
