Located in Townsville, on the Strand at the heart of the popular beach precinct with panoramic views of Magnetic Island by day and spectacular sunsets come dusk.

The Opportunity

Townsville’s renowned Shorehouse is seeking a passionate and experienced Head Chef to join their talented kitchen team. A casual beach house setting along the Strand, we pride ourselves on providing fresh, locally sourced produce with intention to share. We offer modern Asian cuisine with the best of local flavours crafted by our talented team of professional chefs. Our restaurant has a capacity of 130 seats, with an established team of 11 chefs plus kitchen hands.

As Head Chef, you will have a strong passion and eye for detail to create high-quality meals with elegant presentation. You will be involved in all aspects of managing the kitchen including cooking, ordering, menu creation and pricing, rostering, stock control, food safety and team management and development. Previous experience working in high-volume cook to order restaurant environments is essential. You must also be willing and available to work weekends, nights and public holidays.

Your talents

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Formal trade qualification with experience in a fast-paced environment
• Demonstrated experience and knowledge of cooking techniques and modern culinary trends, with a passion for creativity.
• Proven ability to lead, develop and mentor a team.
• Solid understanding of costing, stock control and waste minimisation.
• Ability to build and manage strong supplier relationships.
• Excellent communication, organisational and time management skills.
• Ability to maintain a high standard of food safety and hygiene with a solid understanding of HACCP.
