A prestigious and well-established independent school in Brisbane is seeking a dedicated Payroll Officer to take ownership of the end-to-end payroll function. This is a standalone role, perfect for someone who enjoys a hands-on and fairly manual payroll environment, and takes pride in delivering accurate, timely results.

About the Role Reporting directly to the Business Manager, you will be responsible for the full payroll cycle for a large staff of over 300 employees. This role requires a proactive and detail-oriented professional who is confident working autonomously, managing multiple deadlines, and navigating complex award and EA interpretations.

Key Responsibilities

• Process fortnightly payroll in accordance with relevant awards, agreements and legislative requirements
• Validate timesheets and ensure accurate payment of wages and entitlements
• Maintain employee data and payroll records in the HRIS/payroll system
• Manage payroll queries, the payroll inbox, and liaise with staff and government agencies
• Prepare month-end and year-end reconciliations and statutory reporting (including STP, PAYG, WorkCover, WGEA, Census etc.)
• Calculate salary adjustments, back pays, and termination payments
• Assist with salary forecasting and budgeting
• Support HR with EA interpretation and ad hoc reporting needs

What You Bring

• Proven experience in end-to-end payroll (300+ employees)
• Comfortable working in a standalone, fairly manual payroll environment
• Experience in education or not-for-profit sectors highly regarded but not essential
• Sound understanding of EA and award interpretation
• High proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Experience with Rockfast and/or Dayforce desirable, but not essential
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
• High attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines
• Accounting or payroll qualifications desirable
• Eligibility to hold a Blue Card (Working with Children Check QLD)
