We are seeking a talented and ambitious Head Chef (or strong CDP/Sous Chef ready to step up) to lead the kitchen of a new Japanese restaurant opening in Chipping Norton, South West Sydney.
This venue will feature a strong takeaway offering alongside dine-in service, and we’re looking for someone with passion, creativity, and drive to deliver excellence on both fronts.
You won’t be on your own—the passionate owner will be actively involved, assisting with planning and providing training in areas where you may need to grow.
Responsibilities
Prepare a variety of Japanese dishes including sushi, sashimi, nigiri, rolls, hot items, and starters.
Ensure all dishes meet quality, freshness, and presentation standards.
Create and implement seasonal specials and evolve the menu in line with customer trends and kitchen capabilities.
Monitor stock levels, manage inventory, and order supplies efficiently.
Oversee and maintain a high standard of food safety and hygiene at all times.
Train and supervise junior and casual staff, ensuring consistency and quality across all offerings.
Work collaboratively with management to ensure smooth kitchen operations, especially during peak takeaway periods.
About You
Proven experience as a Sushi Chef, Head Chef, or a strong CDP/Sous Chef eager for the next step.
Excellent knife skills and detailed knowledge of food safety procedures.
Creativity and a passion for delivering premium-quality food, both in presentation and flavour.
Strong leadership skills and a hands-on approach to team management.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, particularly during high-volume takeaway periods.
Flexible and reliable, with availability on evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
