About GFC
At GFC, we’re not just a company; we’re a community of passionate fishermen who’ve been casting our nets since 1950. As a 100% member-owned cooperative, we’re all about camaraderie, sustainability, and making waves in the seafood industry.
Why GFC?
Rock Lobster Royalty: We’re not just any seafood processor—we’re the world’s largest rock lobster processor! With our supply chain handling a large portion of Western Australia’s commercial rock lobster catch, we’re the heartbeat of the ocean.
Coastal Connections: Our operations span a thousand kilometres along WA’s pristine coastline. From Kalbarri to Augusta, we’re woven into the fabric of these communities.
Economic Impact: GFC isn’t just about crayfish; it’s about creating value. We’re a significant contributor to the WA economy, and we’re proud of it.
What GFC looks for in employees.
Adaptability: Our business tides ebb and flow, and we need team members who can ride those waves. If you thrive in a rapidly changing, highly seasonal environment, you’re our kind of sailor.
Cooperative Spirit: We live by the 7 Co-Operative principles. If you’re passionate about community, member participation, and making a difference, you’ll fit right in.
Collaboration Across Horizons: Our teams stretch from Geraldton to Perth, and beyond. If you can build strong, shipshape relationships without daily face-to-face interactions, you’re ready to sail with us.
Value Creators: We’re all about sustainable economic value. If you have a knack for spotting opportunities and turning them into gold, welcome aboard!
About the role
We’re looking for a dynamic team member to join our People, Culture & Capability team—someone who’s either ready to step into an advisory capacity or is actively developing toward that level. You’ll be hands-on, collaborative, and ready to roll up your sleeves in a small, agile team.
This generalist role offers exposure to a broad range of HR functions including:
Recruitment & Onboarding: Support the seasonal recruitment of our large casual workforce, peaking in October/November.
Employee Relations: provide guidance to managers and employees on workplace issues, conflict resolution and performance concerns.
Employee Lifecycle Activities: Ensure our people are looked after at all stages of their employment with us!
Policy Interpretation and Advice: Advise on our People Policies, procedures and award interpretation.
HR Reporting and Insights: Assist with preparation of reports and
Learning & Development: Assist in enhancing our L&D systems and processes.
What We’re Looking For
Whether you're an experienced HR Advisor or a HR Coordinator with a drive for development, we’d love to hear from you. We are pleased to offer flexible working arrangements and are flexible on location (Geraldton, Fremantle and Welshpool). You will need to be willing to travel all sites on various days of the week to service our teams effectively.
Some key characteristics we are looking for:
Someone who’s developing into an advisory role, or already there—but still willing to get their hands dirty with transactional work.
Highly organised, systems-focused, and quick to learn.
Able to work independently and collaboratively across multiple sites.
Comfortable working in a seasonal, fast-paced environment.
Essential Experience/Qualifications
Some experience in a generalist HR capacity, with the confidence and initiative to support and advise on people-related matters as they arise.
Experience supporting managers across various departments.
Organised and methodical approach to administration and record-keeping.
Excellent IT skills, particularly in MS Office.
High attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable Skills
Formal Qualifications in Business or Human Resources.
Experience using HR Information Systems or a strong systems background (UKG Ready).
About Geraldton Fishermens Co-operative
Established in 1950, Geraldton Fishermen’s Co-operative (GFC) was formed by a small group of Western Australian rock lobster fishermen who sought to cut out the middle man and take control of their own future. Over the past 70+ years GFC has grown to become the largest rock lobster exporter in the world and one of Australia’s largest and most successful co-operatives.
GFC is 100% owned by fishermen and license holders supplying the Co-operative, and is operated for the benefit of members. GFC members have a direct stake in the financial success of the company and a deep pride in the famous Brolos brand, motivating them to catch and produce the best rock lobster product possible.
