Back to Business is seeking a knowledgeable Accountant or Assistant Accountant to join our professional team on a full-time in-office basis with a strong focus on Tax Return & Business Activity Statement (BAS) preparation for individuals and small businesses.

Duties & responsibilities:

Prepare and lodge BAS and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS) for a diverse portfolio of clients, ensuring compliance with current tax laws

Assist in the preparation of tax returns for individuals, partnerships, companies, trusts, and superannuation funds, while ensuring accuracy and timely submission

Work directly with clients to ensure their compliance needs are met while providing support to help them improve their tax outcomes

Contribute to the preparation of financial statements and basic management reports, ensuring adherence with accounting standards and client requirements

Collaborate with other team members and provide review of staff work, while fostering a collaborative and efficient working environment

Stay updated on relevant tax legislation, accounting standards, and best practices to ensure continuous professional growth

Provide support to the team, including assisting with complex tax issues and client enquiries as needed

Experience & qualifications:

Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in an assistant or accounting role, within public practice

Tertiary qualifications in Accounting and membership with a recognised accounting body

Proven experience with BAS, GST, and tax compliance across various entity types (individuals, partnerships, companies, trusts)

Skilled in client communication, relationship management, and independent workload management

Strong attention to detail and organisational skills

Proficient in Xero, QuickBooks, Reckon, and tax software (Access Elite an advantage)

Experience in tax planning and supporting clients with strategy optimisation

Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Ability to adapt and learn new tools and technologies
