About Us
Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (KNAC) is the Native Title representative group for the Nyiyaparli People, with approximately 400 current members. The Nyiyaparli People are the Traditional Owners of approximately 36,684 square kilometres of land and waters in the east Pilbara region. This area includes the Aboriginal communities of Jigalong and Parnpajinya, several pastoral leases, and significant mining operations. Locations within the Determination Area are places of particular significance to the Nyiyaparli People, including ceremonial sites, songlines, permanent pools, and natural resources. resources.
Position Purpose
The Pastoral Manager is responsible for overseeing the effective day-to-day operations of KNAC’s pastoral properties. This includes providing leadership and direction across livestock management, station maintenance, commercial matters, stakeholder relationships and broader pastoral activities to ensure operational efficiency. The role is central to safeguarding livestock welfare, maintaining and improving infrastructure, and ensuring all activities are carried out in line with workplace safety standards, cultural values, and KNAC objectives.
Key Responsibilities
The key responsibilities of this role include:
Manage livestock, infrastructure, workforce, and budgets to ensure efficient station operations
Oversee compliance with WHS, biosecurity, environmental, and legislative requirements
Lead stakeholder engagement, including with BHP (sub-lease holder), government, and Traditional Owners/Marlpa
Drive innovation in income and industry diversification opportunities
Foster a positive, respectful, and skilled team culture within a remote working environment
What You'll Bring
Essential experience and qualifications include:
At least four (4) years’ demonstrated experience in managing or supervising operations on a pastoral station or similar agricultural enterprise.
Proven livestock management, including cattle handling, herd health, and grazing systems.
Experience leading and developing teams in remote environments.
Experience in budgeting, financial management, and reporting.
Experience working respectfully with Aboriginal communities.
Competence in using digital tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, station management software, GPS, or mapping systems).
Strong stakeholder management skills, including experience liaising with mining companies, government, and Traditional Owners/Marlpa organisations.
Demonstrated experience in the Pilbara region, with understanding of conditions, culture, and regional relationships.
Working knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g., heritage, native title, firearms, WHS, biosecurity).
Demonstrated capacity for income/industry diversification and development initiatives.
Current unencumbered driver’s licence.
Heavy Rigid (HR) licence.
WA White card.
Desirable experience and qualifications include:
Relevant tertiary or vocational qualifications in agriculture, agribusiness, or station management.
Formal training or certification in workplace health and safety and chemical handling.
First Aid Certificate (HLTAID011) or Equivalent.
Fire training.
RIW Rail Training.
