About the role
Reporting to the Team Leader, Education Liaison Officer (ELO), will play a vital role in improving educational outcomes and well-being for Aboriginal children and young students by facilitating communication, providing support to schools and advocating for culturally responsive practices within the education system.
This position will provide engagement strategies, advocate for student needs, and build strong partnerships with schools, families, and community contributing to improved attendance, wellbeing, and participation in school and improve the experience of Aboriginal students.
About You
- Commitment and understanding for the values that underpin VACCA’ vision and purpose
- Related tertiary qualifications in Education, Community Services, teaching and/or relevant work experience of two to three years in this role.
- Appreciation of Aboriginal societies and cultures, and commitment to continually build knowledge of such, along with a high level of awareness of the challenges or barriers within the education system
- Experience working with school communities, families, and community organisations, particularly within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, to support student engagement and success.
- Strong understanding of the education support systems available to young people living in residential care settings and an understanding of strengths-based, trauma informed and therapeutic practice
- Ability to effectively communicate and engage with relevant stakeholders, including students, parents, and school staff.
- Ability to work autonomously, prioritise, and manage time effectively and flexibly - Familiarity with using computer systems including to record client information.
- Requirements: Valid Police Check, a Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence. Current COVID-19 vaccination (Strongly Recommended)
