The Opportunity

This agency is upgrading its network and cloud environment to meet evolving performance and security requirements. As part of a skilled Systems and Platforms team, you will contribute to both business-as-usual operations and long-term transformation projects.

This is a long-term contract to mid-2026 with extension potential, offering stability, flexibility, and the chance to see your work deliver meaningful outcomes at a national scale.

The Role

As a Senior Network Engineer, you will:

• Develop current and future state network architecture
• Support the transition to cloud platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure networking
• Install, configure, test, and maintain enterprise networks while resolving issues and emergencies
• Research, analyse, and evaluate network infrastructure to optimise performance and recommend improvements
• Provide technical advice, reporting, and guidance to stakeholders
• Collaborate with technical and non-technical colleagues across geographically dispersed teams
• Mentor peers and contribute to team capability development

The Ideal Person

You are an experienced Network Engineer who can balance technical depth with strong communication skills.

You’ll bring experience in:

• Designing, administering, and optimising enterprise networks
• Troubleshooting and maintaining complex environments
• Layer 2 networking (VLANs, trunks, Spanning-Tree)
• Implementing Microsoft Azure networking topologies
• Communicating effectively across teams and locations
• Integrity and accountability within policy and legislative frameworks

Bonus if you also have experience in:

• FortiGate firewall configuration
• Routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF
• DWDM optical networks
• Troubleshooting L4–7 application performance
• DNS and DHCP administration

Relevant tertiary qualifications or vendor certifications (Cisco, Fortinet, etc.) would also be a plus!

You must be an Australian Citizen and will have a Baseline Clearance/the ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline Clearance.

Salary / Rate

• $120/hr - $180/hr inclusive of Super
• Contract until June 2026 with 2 × 12-month extension options
• Flexible hybrid working arrangements
